Even lighting throughout the stage is ideal for runway events! The organiser should set it up to ensure that the clothes (in this case, both the clothes and hair) look great while providing the desired atmosphere.

The following are some images from the Art of Hair Spring/Summer 2012. This event was made possible by Action Hair Salon and Shu Uemura together with master stylist Vinn Wong and fashion designer Vaughn Tan.

Candid or Posed for Event Photography?

It depends! Having a mix of both when photographing events usually works best as it gives decision-makers options. They can decide on what they need post-event. It is common for businesses to send group photos, including the VIPs to the VIPs. Group photos that the photographer poses have the advantage of showing everybody's face clearly without any unexpected expressions. Images for social media can contain a mixture of candid and posed shots.

Chingay is an annual event in Singapore, recognised for the giant decorated floats that parade the streets. The following are some images from a large-scale art and culture carnival held in conjunction with the Chingay Parade. It was great! There were cheerleaders, cosplayers, magicians, percussionists and dozens of booths showcasing interest groups offered at the community centres.

Yes! Sporting events do allow participants to build relationships with potential clients in a unique setting. Businesses can also use it to help spread brand awareness while promoting a healthy lifestyle. How great is that?

Having some sort of transportation available for the photographer will allow the photographer to keep up with the participants throughout the event. The organiser should also allocate some time for scouting before the event. The time set aside for this will help identify potential problems while providing some buffer to discover solutions.

Venue Lighting, An Ingredient to Creating Engaging Event Photos

Lighting plays a huge part in photography. Poorly lighted venues make it hard to create good event photos. The photographer may have to rely heavily on flash, shoot at very high ISO, use a wide aperture lens, or shoot at prolonged shutter speeds. All solutions come with its downsides. Relying too heavily on flash may cause the image to look different from the actual scene. High ISO settings may result in grainy photos. Using an aperture setting that is too wide may result in a depth of field that is too shallow. Shooting at slow shutter speed may result in blurry photos.
